Major ink savings with CMYK Optimizer and Color Factory - Would you like to save 20% or more of your ink costs? Software Consulting Services, LLC has a new software offering that might enable you to do that. It is called from Alwan Color Expertise. Here is how it works. The software analyzes every area of the page that contains color. In areas in which cyan, magenta, yellow, and black dots are all present, the software replaces some of the C, M, and Y with black without changing the visual appearance. This technique is known as 'grey component replacement' (GCR).

Because less total ink is used and because the image contains more of the inexpensive black ink and less of the expensive colors, ink costs are reduced. Cost savings of 20% are common and the savings can be significantly greater in some cases.

The software typically pays for itself in 8 months. Apart from the ink cost savings, there are other benefits. Since there is less total ink coverage, there is less show-through; and the standardization resulting from converting images to optimized CMYK provides more color stability on press. To get an idea of how this works in practice, we spoke with two users: David Bridges, Prepress Manager at the Tulsa World, and Michael Krayer, Production Director at Lancaster Newspapers in Pennsylvania. Both were enthusiastic about the savings they had been able to achieve with CMYK Optimizer.

The Tulsa World experience Tulsa World, a broadsheet with a daily circulation of about 100,000 and a weekend circulation of about 150,000, has seen huge savings from the use of CMYK Optimizer. Bridges says it is difficult to be precise because two different ink-saving measures were instituted at the same time: a new screening technology (Esko's Concentric Screening) and CMYK Opimizer. Together they resulted in a reduction of ink costs of more than 50%. 'I can say that 35% of the ink savings, if not more, were due to CMYK Optimizer alone,' Bridges reports. Tulsa World has also benefited in the pressroom from the ink reduction.

Total ink coverage has been reduced from 240% to 200%, resulting in less show-through and easier presswork. The paper is now experimenting with a further reduction to 190%.

This could be especially beneficial if the paper switches to lighter-weight paper (with the potential for greater show-through problems); a change which is currently being considered. 1954 Boy First Book Of Radio Electronics Morgan Pdf Reader. CMYK Optimizer at Lancaster Newspapers Lancaster Newspapers, in Lancaster, PA, prints about 75,000 copies daily and 95,000 on Sunday. Lancaster implemented CMYK Optimizer about eight years ago. It was selected as the result of a series of A/B press tests with three different ink-saving packages.

The top two candidates were fairly close in their capabilities, but CMYK Optimizer was selected because of its superior ease of use. Michael Krayer, Production Director, told us that there was an immediate ink cost savings of 15-17% when CMYK Optimizer was implemented. It paid for itself in a matter of months.

The newspaper went on to achieve further savings by switching the inks they were using. For Krayer, though, the ink cost savings was only one of the benefits from using CMYK Optimizer. Another key aspect was better reproduction on press. Krayer was enthusiastic about both the savings and the print quality his newspaper has obtained by using CMYK Optimizer. He can't see why most newspapers wouldn't implement it.
