HI Checking AC Output 1. After the battery voltage and connections have been checked, disconnect the inverter.s AC output wires from the power distribution system and connect a light to the AC output of the inverter/charger. Disconnect the remote panel to eliminate it as a possible problem.

From what I've read on this forum, you need a peak charger for NiMH batteries. Since this one has a timer and is a trickle charger, I would say it's just for NiCAD batteries. Once again, from what I've read, it's easy to overcharge NiMH batteries with a timer. Nova Scotia Anglers Handbook. And you don't want to use a trickle charger because once they are charged to their peak level, you don't want to continue charging them. I think you need a peak charger that shuts itself off when the battery is fully charged.

That charger has a discharge setting. NiCAD batteries should be fully discharged before recharging (They have memory issues). NiMH batteries do not need to be discharged.
