Amen Corner Augusta

Railroad Earth’s 2008 studio release, Amen Corner, was written and recorded at a 300 year-old farmhouse in New Jersey’s rural countryside. What happened inside the building was the experience of a lifetime for the band’s members, resulting in an early creative pinnacle of a gifted young band, and an album that is an instant Americana classic. Amen Corner is a collection of crisp and crafted roots, bluegrass, and acoustic sides that resonates in all the right places. The tunes breathe both on and between the notes. The boys definitley brought it to the capital of the Empire State. The Egg was definitley hatching with pure magic lastnight. This was my first Railroad Earth show in 8 months, and this is officially my favorite Railroad Earth show I have attended, and heard in the past year (Lolo is up their, and so is the NYE shows,) but to say the least, this is one of the best one set shows Railroad has played in a while. However, let me start off with my preshow festivities (fastfoward to the next paragraph for showtime). My dad and I both got into the truck and drived 2 and a half hours to Cairo, New York, where my dads friend Dave Freed and his dad Herb Freed have 99 acres of beautiful mountain land. Dave was planning on coming with us to the show, but the day prior was told he had to work so we were left with a ticket, and asked Herb if he was interested in coming who originally was pretty tired and was not in the mood to, but when we said we were going to dinner before we headed up to Albany, he said he would be happy to ocme.

Well, we put on some Railroad Earth for them in the car on the way to the local eaterie, which turned out to be last years Sherman Show(s), and the two seemed to be interested in the music as we arrived to the little steakhouse espue family owned resteraunt in Cairo. We all enjoyed a great dinner while my dad and his friend Dave caught up on the past year as they had not seen eachother for about that time.

As we finished our dinner, we were surrounded by the motorcycle crew since their was a annual motorcycle gathering/festival for 3 days and brought 5000 bikers into the area. We drove the short ride home, and told Herb that he was welcomed to join us to the concert since we had a open 4th row seat, and after listening to the music he agreed to come along to the show. We then got back to the Freed residents dropped off Dave and hurried on our way to the Egg in Albany NY at approximatelyand happened to be about an hour drive as Herb had predicted. This of course was when I got the preshow butterflies, which were really feelings of excitement for the show we were about to witness.
